About

God's Storehouse is a non-profit ministry based in Alamogordo, NM whose mission is to "work together to help those in need."

God's Storehouse officially began in 1996, working out of the founder's home. In our first year, we took in roughly 75 boxes of clothing and other items, a few items of furniture, and one vehicle. We have grown rapidly in the last few years. In 2002, we dealt with 8,000 lbs of produce. In 2007, we expanded to handling over 6,000 lbs of clothing per week. Also in 2007, we gave 3,020 toy gift bags for our Christmas outreach to 28 different ministries. (Read the brochure to get updated information) We also will be posting our annual reports and newsletters.

Currently we accept any type of donation which we then match with needs in the local community, as well as ministries around the nation and the world. Volunteer workers' needs are met when they assist in the process of packing and sorting. Donated items are separated according to categories. What is not used for mission work is sold to a recycling company to fund ongoing outreaches. Presently we are based out of six storage units which we are quickly outgrowing. After items are sorted, they are repacked in egg boxes, which were chosen for their uniform size and easy handling. Boxes not distributed locally are continually delivered to missions in places in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and internationally in locations in Mexico, Argentina, and Malawi.

God's Storehouse works with a variety of denominations and non-denominational organizations. We always welcome new Christian non-profit organizations in need of items and willing to join forces with us in the distribution of donations to those in need.

Our mission is to teach people to work for what they receive so that they appreciate their blessing and pass on that blessing to others. The proverb: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime," is quite apt for what we are trying to do. We wish to help missionaries so that they can have the tools they need to draw people in and minister to them by meeting their needs with donated items.

What started as a small organization manageable for one person has grown to over thirty volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours. Each year we have more than doubled in volume and are expecting the same increases in years to come.

In the future, it is our goal to bring together community service organizations to coordinate such endeavors as a community food bank and community clothes closet. God's Storehouse plans to be a training center to teach skills to low income individuals so that they will be able to support their families by means other than welfare and charity.
